2019 was the year in which 90TEN MEDICAL’s plan to grow our strategic, insight-led medical affairs offer for global pharmaceutical clients – in the face of fierce competition – was realised. Whilst maintaining deep relationships with our UK clients, our repositioning strategy led to fee income increasing by 40% and our team of client service specialists and medical writers grew by over 30%.

We celebrated diversity and championed a staff development approach linked to an individual’s strengths, with an 88% retention rate as a result. We evolved our Feel-Think-Dotools and applied our behavioural science expertise to the challenges faced by pharma clients, adding over £1m in consultancy revenue and six new global clients to our roster.

This success was made possible by everyone in the 90TEN MEDICAL team working seamlessly together with an unfaltering dedication to 90TEN’s life-changing values of commitment, courage and respect.

Lucid Group

2019 was another standout year for Lucid Group. We built a TRANSFORMATION TEAM to help understand the evolving role of our MEDICAL AFFAIRS colleagues. With their support we began to evolve our organisation to be able to:

  • Model the impact of our behaviour-change programmes on our clients’ future assets and future healthcare developments
  • Reach and engage new audiences with a single customer experience
  • Assess key future change and how to harness it, eg personalised medicine.

We needed better creative and digital capability and needed to increase our editorial and scientific excellence. Therefore, we made our first acquisitions, of BlueDog and HealthCare21, to strengthen our MEDICAL AFFAIRS offering.

We delivered 586 programmes, working with 36,000 HCP experts and reaching an estimated 18 million patients.

Our purpose is clear: we transform lives. And we delivered a stellar business performance. Our revenue grew across our entire group of companies, with our key clients showing the most growth, rewarding our amazing teams for the unrivalled partnerships they have built. McCann Health Medical Communications

2019 was a tremendous year for McCann Health Medical Communications (MHMC). Our key strengths and differentiators are our people, culture and our commitment to science.

We are proud to have achieved revenue growth of 29%, without acquisition, over the past three  years. The revenue in 2019 remained consistent with the prior year despite a very volatile environment; this enabled us to consolidate our position and to achieve a record operating margin, improving 1.4% from 2018. Our clients remain loyal and delighted to partner with us. We achieved a retention rate of 80%, and 26% of our team was promoted. 91% of our staff said this is a great place to work and they are proud of the work we do.

Our vision is ‘to help our clients and their brands play a meaningful difference to people’s lives’. We continually align to this vision through our commitment to our people, to healthcare professionals, to patients and to the broader community, supported by the launch of our Global Scientific Council – a pioneering initiative in the industry. We are the only healthcare communications agency to be invited to join in the United Nations Private Sector Roundtable.

The OPEN Health mantra is to employ, retain and develop great people, deliver great work, excite our clients, have fun and make money…and always in that order. OPEN Health Medical Communications has consistently delivered on this approach over the years, while growing at around 30% year-on-year— quite a result! In 2019, the stakes were raised. We were tasked with delivering yet another year of outstanding growth, while rebranding and managing extensive internal change. Instead of letting these changes distract us, the growth mindset we have nurtured drove all our team members to take ownership of the expansion; we behaved as thought leaders in the industry, developed novel, innovative client solutions to drive meaningful outcomes, won fantastic accounts and delivered such outstanding work that our clients trusted us with even more. And, underlying all of this was a culture of openness, partnership, excellence, bravery, recognition and thanks. We empowered our team members to own our values, managed change through open dialogue, welcomed many exceptional minds to our teams, developed our staff and supported our communities. Not only did we deliver on the numbers, yet again, but our valued people are raring to take us forward to even greater ventures.
