More than the sum of its parts
Summary of work
There is no clinical area more fiercely contested than cancer, with many charities, pharmaceutical companies and others all competing for share of the voice. It is therefore refreshing to see more than 50 charities with an interest in improving cancer outcomes come together to work collaboratively, with the support of industry. Building on the varied expertise of its members, this partnership has secured debate on the commissioning of cancer services and a greater focus on the patient voice in access to treatments; issues that were important to all members but the primary focus of none.
Judges’ comments
This is a fantastic joint working initiative. So many pharma companies and charities came together, putting aside their individual agendas and truly working together to achieve a louder collective voice with a common purpose - better cancer care for patients in the UK. It was a good model that would benefit other therapy areas and has longevity and a true sense of collaboration, ticking all the boxes.
