Dean Street at Home

by 90TEN Healthcare for 56 Dean Street

Summary of work

Thirty years after HIV was first diagnosed in the UK, the message about safe sex and the need for regular testing has fallen on deaf ears; today HIV is one of the fastest growing long-term health conditions in the UK, with 25% of those affected still undiagnosed. This innovative public health campaign redesigned the delivery of HIV testing by identifying people at high risk of HIV infection and working with local partners to reach them with specialised testing services. The programme delivered truly outstanding results that will leave a positive lasting legacy.

Judges comments

This campaign clearly identified its target audience’s needs, set out with some particularly smart objectives and concluded with some strong results to really show it had worked. A number of common barriers to service uptake and environmental constraints were also obviously taken into consideration in the development process. It’s not easy changing practice, but this programme impressively did just that.
