Philip Thomson

Summary of work

Winner: Philip Thomson

This award recognises not just senior communicators, but people who are making a real difference to the broader industry, over and above their day job (however important and challenging that may be).

During the last year the pharmaceutical industry has come under an intense level of scrutiny and an almost unprecedented level of criticism over the lack of transparency for clinical data.

GSK has taken a leadership position, engaging with integrity, openness and pragmatism and, as a result, has managed to maintain and arguably enhance its reputation. In so doing, GSK has also helped to balance the debate and has most probably helped to protect the reputation of the industry as a whole.

The GSK Global Communications team sets the standard for others in ensuring that their work is always of the highest possible integrity in line with the company’s core values.

Philip fully deserves this award in recognition for his responsible stewardship of the team at a time when the industry needs positive role models and begins to recognise that change is inevitable.
