4,000 Voices, 1 Message

by Ketchum for World Hepatitis Alliance

Summary of work

While hepatitis, the seventh leading cause of death globally, claims 1.4 million lives a year, governments, policymakers and the public are woefully under-aware and/or ill-prepared to respond. With this deadly disease breathing down humanity’s neck, we responded by humanising hepatitis.

The ‘4,000 Voices’ campaign invited key audiences to give a representative voice to the 4,000 people dying every single day from hepatitis by creating unique content that captured the urgent need for immediate action towards hepatitis prevention.

Culminating on World Hepatitis Day (WHD) 2015, supporters from almost every country in the world spread our message of hepatitis prevention through original content - online videos, tweets, Facebook posts and physical events - using the innovative customisable tool.

Housed on the multilingual worldhepatitisday.org, we aggregated this content through simple yet effective mechanisms, including a visual mosaic featuring 4,000 digital tiles filled with supporter messages and photos; a wall of supporting organisation logos; and WHD events map filled with activities from hundreds of countries worldwide.

In total, 77% of the world’s nations participated in WHD and engagement with our original content, including high level support from Barak Obama and Stephen Fry, resulting in us reaching over 350 million people through social and traditional media.
