Finalist

CKD slides

by Bedrock Healthcare Communications for Janssen Pharmaceuticals

Summary of work

Diabetes requires long-term involvement of primary and secondary care teams. Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in diabetes is complex and not well understood by primary care HCPs.

In line with the needs of a relevant professional society, Janssen saw an opportunity to provide specialist HCPs with a resource to educate primary care and encourage multi-disciplinary team working.

The resource needed to give practical guidance; encouraging appropriate management within primary care and clearly recommending when to refer to a specialist.

Additionally, the resource could be used for Janssen’s internal training, supporting a drive for excellence.

A multidisciplinary steering group, including members of The British Renal Society Chronic Kidney Disease Strategy Group (BRS-CKD Strategy Group), contributed to creating a comprehensive slide resource.

Individually, the steering group provided a total of 388 slides. Bedrock’s writing team arranged these into a broad outline and flow. These were condensed to a deck of 63 slides, to form the starting point for the content-writing process.

Involving the BRS-CKD Strategy Group ensured the content was appropriate and pitched correctly. The final resource was endorsed by the BRS and is available on http://britishrenal.org/CKD-Forum/Educational- Resources.aspx (see sections A–J).

The fact that the slides were endorsed and disseminated by the BRS exemplifies the reach and value of the resource and its appropriateness to the target audience in terms of language and style.

Judges’ comments

A good example of very strong medical writing. It was clearly a labour-intensive project, but one that resulted in a well put together and manageable slide set, whose endorsement by the British Renal Society was testament to its worth.
