Summary of work

From Clinical Trials to Real-World Evidence: Lessons from a Cross-Speciality Approach

While clinical trials remain the gold standard for drug approval, the healthcare ecosystem requires more information than ever before on how specific drugs work in real-world clinical practice, in particular for patient-types that would be excluded in clinical protocols. However, feedback and research showed that some stakeholders remain reluctant to harness this evidence.

In advance of the launch of Product X, in Crohn’s disease, there was a need to change this perception to allow clinicians to harness the heritage of Product X, which has a demonstrated long-term safety and efficacy profile in the real-world dermatology arena.

The meeting ‘From clinical trials to real-world evidence: lessons from a cross-speciality approach’, set out to meet this goal through a multidisciplinary learning approach in advance of the launch. The meeting was designed with the guidance of a multidisciplinary steering committee to ensure the differing educational needs of all specialties were met. The meeting was accredited, 8 European CME credits, the maximum possible.

Participants strongly agreed that the presented content would impact their clinical practice. The most cited `take-home' learnings were: Check real-world data more; Combine with data from dermatologists; Appreciate the impact of registries.

Judges' comments

We loved the great use of creativity and technology demonstrated in this entry. It had clear and specific targets and fulfilled a genuine need, focusing on real world evidence. It had visually compelling materials, shining a light in an opaque area.
