From Words to Action: AbbVie’s Sustainable Healthcare Initiative

by Incisive Health for AbbVie

Summary of work

To achieve corporate differentiation within its sector, AbbVie set out to go beyond medicines and make a meaningful contribution to finding solutions to the challenges facing the NHS through its Sustainable Healthcare initiative. Building on the clear vision for a sustainable future outlined by a multidisciplinary group of experts in 2014, the last two years of the Sustainable Healthcare initiative focused on turning this vision into reality. In 2015-16, the Sustainable Healthcare initiative progressed from words to action, prioritising the development of practical, evidence based and proven resources for the NHS to use in achieving its long-term sustainability.

AbbVie established multiple partnerships with the NHS and the charity sector to pilot new, sustainable approaches to healthcare delivery and provided a platform for existing good practice to be recognised. Through a programme of national conferences, AbbVie stimulated the sustainability debate among system leaders, promoted new tested solutions and encouraged action. In addition to making a contribution to the long-term sustainability of the health service, AbbVie’s inclusive, collaborative and solutions-oriented model of working enhanced the company’s reputation with its stakeholders and delivered the sought differentiation.

Judges' comments

“This was a bold, high level and ongoing initiative to address top corporate agendas and needs. As an evolving programme, it is clearly achieving real results and delivering strong outcomes. A really nice campaign with further potential.
