Launching and Embedding Our Long Term Aspiration

Summary of work

The Novartis UK Pharma organisation, under new leadership, and in recognition of the potential impact a powerful purpose would have on the performance of its associates, began a journey in 2017 to launch a new long-term aspiration and purpose statement. With associates who were feeling a lot of change fatigue our challenge was to create a desire for change and a sense of excitement for a long-term purpose that would live beyond any one leader.

Our strategy saw us involve associates from the outset. We used the power of storytelling to create an emotional connection to the aspiration and purpose statement, while making the most of every opportunity to reinforce the messages behind it. Finally we took our associates on a journey of understanding and empowerment during our annual conference.

Eight weeks post launch, 95% of associates say they are highly motivated by the purpose statement and are beginning to bring it to life in their day-to-day work, with 85% agreeing they now know what they need to do differently.
