Novartis UK

Summary of work

The past year for Novartis UK was defined by the introduction of significant innovations, important culture change and the need to manage multiple sensitive issues. The Communications team was at the forefront of positioning Novartis as a life sciences leader with the introduction of revolutionary treatments and the relocation of our headquarters to a new London life sciences hub. It was also a year in which much work was required to protect our reputation in light of several significant issues, including a judicial review of an NHS policy on the use of unlicensed medicines. The team managed all of this through a mix of proactive and reactive engagement with key external stakeholders and strong collaboration with key internal stakeholders including senior leadership, franchise teams, medical and legal.

In 2018 the Communications team spearheaded a shift in how Novartis positions itself to the external world and to our associates. We’ve taken bold steps towards becoming a function that is more focused on digital innovation and through the significant efforts of this team, Communications continues to build a reputation as a trusted partner and is now seen as a 'place to be' and an interesting area to work within Novartis.

Judges' comments

The fact that Novartis attained Matt Hancock’s support is a huge achievement. They have a very good senior leadership presence with excellent results and metrics. They are particularly strong on corporate reputation.
