Working together to drive change for the psoriasis community

Summary of work

Psoriasis is a serious chronic condition which has both physical and psychological effects on a person’s daily life. Patient research, clinical experience and stakeholder opinion indicates that many people with psoriasis are under- or ineffectively-treated and that inequality in access to treatment exists in Europe. Contributing to this situation are the poor recognition of psoriasis by EU policy makers, the underestimation of the long- term psychological burden of psoriasis, and the under-representation of patients’ needs.

In response Janssen, and a group of multidisciplinary stakeholders involved in psoriasis care, created the European Expert Working Group for Healthcare in Psoriasis (EEWGHP). The EEWGHP produced the Psoriasis White Paper, a framework for action supported over three years by a multichannel communications programme aimed at dermatologists, patients and influencers. The Psoriasis White Paper was published in a leading Dermatology journal, supported by an E-petition (The Psoriasis Mandate), a media campaign and a digital and social media film campaign (Stop Hiding, Take Action!). The Psoriasis White Paper and results of the Psoriasis Mandate have since been presented to the European Parliament and are being acted on. The EEWGHP partnership demonstrates how pharma, healthcare providers and advocacy leaders can effectively work together to make a difference.
