Area Prescribing Committee (APC) Simulation Workshop

By: Novartis

Summary of work

This was an innovative and forward-thinking initiative to challenge, motivate and encourage teams to work effectively in a cross-functional manner to prepare for the launch of a new medicine in the UK. This was the first time the organisation undertook a workshop which involved all three different job types (key account managers, patient access managers and medical science liaisons) working in conjunction with each other.

The workshop was designed to be a very positive, interactive, challenging and enjoyable experience and to be a productive team-building and business-oriented event.

The key focus was to reinforce and encourage positive behaviours in relation to knowledge acquisition, stakeholder management and collaborative working processes.

What made this initiative unique was the focus on changing and enhancing behaviours that would lead to positive outcomes post the workshop. Using real-life account data meant that it was a simulation workshop that delegates could relate to when working on their territories. This allowed for a programme which demonstrated sustainability for the long-term rather than a one-off intervention.

The feedback from the workshop was extremely positive and enthusiastic and this led to the client requesting the workshop to be delivered to other business units within the organisation.

Judges’ comments

This was a logical and well-structured training programme. It had a good strategy and was strongly executed, capturing video pledges from the participants.
