Training and Coaching Programme for a New UK Affiliate of an Ophthalmology Company

By: Santen UK
With support from: Ashfield Insight & Performance

Summary of work

The client was aiming to set up a new sales team in the UK in the area of ophthalmology, but had no previous presence in the UK and was keen to train and develop the team by enhancing their skills and behaviours over a period of time. To ensure an impactful start to the project, they required a thorough initial training programme as well as sustained development and coaching for the longer term.

The project was initially scoped out for a one-year period with a view to extending this to two years depending on the performance of the team in the first year.

The entire programme was to consist of an initial training programme, soft skills training, simulated role-playing events and follow-up workshops and coaching, specifically aimed at addressing the gaps identified post the role-play events.

The first year was a real success resulting in the project being extended out to the two-year period. Specific areas were highlighted for development and this allowed a sustained training programme with certain metrics taken into consideration.

The team is performing successfully in the market and to a standard above the industry average as determined by the metrics observed.

Judges’ comments

This was a good training programme, coaching the sales team in a therapy area that is new to them in UK. It was great to see sustained commitment to delivery of training.
