Summary of work

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterised by hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention. Known to affect children and adolescents, it is also increasingly recognised in adults. Global awareness, recognition and management vary widely, presenting an opportunity to share best practice across multidisciplinary teams worldwide.

ADHD in practice (ADHDIP) is a review journal aimed at healthcare professionals involved in ADHD management. It is distributed internationally and freely, in print and online, and in multi-language formats, with its profile being raised through collaboration with clinical associations and patient organisations.

Between July 2014 and December 2015, ADHDIP increased its global reach and improved as a practical resource by increasing accessibility through translation and content developed for the broad multidisciplinary team.

Direct searches for ADHDIP increased between 2014 and 2015, indicating improved awareness of the medical education resources available.

An independent survey showed that ADHDIP is rated at similar levels to traditional psychiatric and paediatric journals and is one of the few specialist journals read by both paediatricians and psychiatrists.

Feedback indicates ADHDIP achieved its objectives, improved clinicians’ continuing professional development and enhanced outcomes for children, young people and adults affected by this debilitating condition.

Judges’ comments

This work generated exceptional customer feedback and made really good use of digital channels. In terms of impact on raising awareness and equipping healthcare professionals, you’ve got to hand it to the team - to produce work that’s read more than The Lancet and more than any of the specialised paediatric journals is incredible.
