Face up to Prostate Cancer

by Orchid with support from Spink

Summary of work

In the UK, Prostate Cancer is likely to be the most prevalent cancer by 2030. Orchid is a UK male cancer charity which has offered support and educational services for patients and anyone interested in male cancer since 1996.

Orchid wanted to raise its profile as a thought leader in the male cancer field through highbrow media coverage during Orchid’s annual ‘Male Cancer Awareness Week’ and as the charity had never been involved in the parliamentary environment before, its primary objective was to establish political influence to enable Orchid to be part of the development of male cancer policy.

On a limited budget, Spink worked with Orchid to produce a report and launch a campaign highlighting the issues that the UK will face, unless action is taken. #FaceUpToProstateCancer engaged healthcare professionals, organisations and MPs, including the public health minister, the shadow minister for public health, the NHS, broadcast television, national media and leading pharmaceutical companies throughout the UK. Orchid now looks forward to organising and chairing the first meeting of an All Party Parliamentary Group for Men’s Cancers this October as a result of the campaign.

Judges' comments

The Face up to Prostate cancer campaign demonstrated clear changes in attitude and behaviour. It was refreshingly clear on what it aimed to achieve and did so on a limited budget. It exceeded expectations and was an engaging, interesting, and above all impactful campaign. An outstanding winner!
