Building business capability for olaparib

AstraZeneca with support from Ashfield Insight & Performance

Summary of work

Our brief was to create a remote digital training programme for global and affiliate medical affairs and MSLs on an innovative oncology product ahead of launch. The PC/iPad compatible training had to address different core and foundation levels of scientific knowledge and be suitable for a range of learning styles.

Our strategy involved designing a modular training resource covering a range of topics essential to learning. This allowed participants to progress through core and foundation levels of scientific complexity according to learning need, regardless of their scientific background. Content was presented in a variety of visual formats with optional pop-ups and downloadable PDFs for easy access to more detailed information.

To cater for different learning styles and to challenge and engage, we incorporated interactivity in a range of animations, memorable visuals, knowledge quizzes and gamification. To convey valuable real-world insight we included video interviews with patients and clinicians. Knowledge consolidation and validation were conducted at intervals throughout the modules using games and quizzes.

Learners engaged enthusiastically with multimedia components and interactive activities, and overall learning success was confirmed by the completion of post-learning validation materials. The entire training programme was developed and successfully delivered within six weeks.

Judges’ comments

AstraZeneca’s use of interactivity and gamifaction worked well in engaging the audience. A praiseworthy use of patient and clinician testimonials to bring real stakeholder needs to life.
