Rheumatology-Congress.co.uk

Roche Products Ltd UK and Chugai Pharma UK Limited in association with Tonic Life Communications

Summary of work

With vast amounts of data presented at international rheumatology conferences each year, and funding/time constraints preventing some rheumatology healthcare professionals (HCPs) attending, Roche/Chugai identified a need to deliver a concise selection of data from rheumatology conferences back to UK HCPs in a practice-relevant fashion.

Led by an independent Faculty of UK rheumatology thought leaders, founded in 2009 and repeated in 2010, Rheumatology-Congress.co.uk delivers filmed peer-to-peer insights to a mass UK rheumatology audience.

The project harnesses simple technology in an efficient way, with successful promotion of the site led exclusively by the Faculty through its extensive peer networks – an audience largely inaccessible through standard marketing techniques. As a result of this approach, communications from professional societies about Rheumatology-Congress.co.uk in 2010 reached around 4,200 specialists.

Now entering its third year, the Rheumatology-Congress.co.uk highlights package has become an expected and anticipated part of the annual rheumatology calendar. Abstract authors are not only willing participants but positively endorse the project among their peers, and some of the very good research that drives clinical practice, and ultimately patient outcomes, has been brought to a wider audience as a result.

Judges comments

“This is an impressive service that has developed progressively based on feedback and analysis. With strong credibility thanks to its independence and Society endorsement, this is a valuable service for HCPs working in rheumatology. Now in its third year, the service appears to have changed behaviour, with attendees expecting the service.”

Stakeholder comments

“With so many abstracts presented at conferences, it is important to have an easily digestible resource to access to ensure maximum appeal. The project is growing year-upon-year and I am delighted to be involved in such a unique programme. It not only helps my peers get the most of the conference, but allows me personally to gain in-depth insights from abstract authors and widen my professional alliances.

From Feedback received it appears as though independence from its sponsors provides the most credibility for my peers and now that there is an accredited CPD module available, the website is fast becoming an all-round valuable resource.”
