Campaign overview - Lose the smoker in you community campaign

Company: Pfizer

In Newparks Leicester some 40% of residents were smokers, almost double the national average. Lose the Smoker in You engaged the entire community in the importance of reaching smokers and their families with a message encouraging them to stop smoking with NHS help and the support from those around them, and so build a healthier neighbourhood.

The campaign's success relied upon the involvement of a diverse range of stakeholders to ensure appropriate messages and targeting within the community, whilst reassuring residents that specific local challenges had been considered.

Ensuring longevity was a "must do". Four months later smokers were still being inspired to stop smoking.

Judges' comments

"A solid and sustainable campaign with effective implementation that engaged, empowered and supported local smokers, ensuring great results for the local community, the NHS and also for Pfizer."

"It would be great to see this local social marketing scaled-up. They had great ambition and this really should be deployed nationally."
