Cystic fibrosis patients most likely to be mobile health users, says survey

mHealth (mobile health)Patients' mobile health adoption, activities and attitudes vary greatly among different therapy areas, according to a new survey.

Manhattan Research found patients with cystic fibrosis were the online audience segments most likely to be mHealth users, followed by those with growth hormone deficiency and then acne.

The consultants said the research highlights the need for marketers to work to understand mobile behaviour by different therapeutic segments.

The Cybercitizen Health study also put the US mobile health audience at 95 million adults in 2013, a 27 per cent year-on-year increase from 2012 when the figure stood at 75 million.

Top 10 mobile health user groups by therapy area:

1. Cystic fibrosis patients

2. Growth hormone deficiency patients

3. Acne patients

4. ADD/ADHD patients

5. Hepatitis C patients

6. Migraine patients

7. Crohn's disease patients

8. Chronic kidney disease patients

9. Generalised anxiety disorder patients

10. Bipolar disorder patients

The study involved over 8,600 US adults being quizzed online and on the phone in Q3 2013 and the above listing is based on online adults in therapy areas with at least 50 respondents.
