Digital roundup

Genzyme, Merck, the forthcoming EU clinical trials portal and more

Digital pharmaIn this digital roundup we look at the EMA's clinical trials portal, the chief digital officer role, Merck's popular periodic table app and more.

Just 6% of pharmaceutical companies currently employs a chief digital officer, according to a new report. The 2015 Chief Digital Officer Study did find that their the numbers of this executive position were growing and - perhaps unsurprisingly - larger companies tended to be ahead of the curse with this trend.

The EMA will launch its new clinical trials portal and database in October 2017 as part of its commitments under the 2014 European Clinical Trial Regulation. The service will allow for the submission, authorisation and supervision of trials in the EU and serve as an information source for the public.

Sanofi's specialty care business Genzyme has been rebranded as Sanofi Genzyme, and the unit took the opportunity to join Facebook. Its presence on the social network adds to the firm's use of YouTube, LinkedIn and Twitter.

Merck has updated its periodic table of the elements mobile app. The previous version of its free PTE app racked up more than one million downloads and the new version, again aimed at a audience that encompasses school students or professors, laypeople or professional technicians, looks to provide a greater depth of information and improved usability.
