Novo signs personalised digital health deal in diabetes

Will work with Glooko on jointly-developed and branded solutions

Novo Nordisk

Novo Nordisk is set to develop a new range of digital health tools for people with diabetes.

The Danish firm will collaborate with California's Glooko, which provides remote monitoring software geared towards patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Glooko's CEO Rick Altinger said: "Glooko's partnership with Novo Nordisk aims to empower tens of millions of patients with digital tools to make diabetes management easier.

"We look forward to delivering jointly-branded capabilities that will enhance the collaboration between patient and healthcare professionals and enable us to provide joint offerings to people living with diabetes around the world."

Together the partners will jointly-develop a range of co-branded solutions to support patients with treatment adherence and blood glucose management.

Christian Kanstrup, senior vice president, Strategy, Access & Marketing at Novo Nordisk, said: "We are excited to partner with Glooko and to take another step towards delivering digital health offerings that help people with diabetes to improve their blood glucose control.

“Working in partnerships will furthermore enhance our ability to demonstrate the real-world value of our portfolio of diabetes treatments."

The solutions the collaboration develops will be integrated within the Digital Health Platform Novo has developed with IBM Watson Health as part of a deal they signed in December 2015. Commenting then, Novo's Jakob Riis said the project would allow it to "explore the opportunities presented by an increasingly digitalised healthcare system".
