HRA Pharma takes to social media to support its ellaOne brand

Launches new Facebook and Twitter channels for its morning after pill

HRA Pharma has launched its emergency contraceptive brand on social media, setting up new UK-focused channels on for ellaOne on Facebook and Twitter.

The Paris-headquartered pharma company hopes the move will help it ‘address the need for accurate online information’, while also breaking down stigmas attached to the area.

Clare Newins, marketing manager at HRA Pharma, said: “At HRA Pharma, we are dedicated to empowering women by giving them the information they need to make informed choices about contraception.

“Launching ellaOne on social media is more than simply raising awareness of a suitable EC method, in fact, we hope this provides women with a place where they can engage with one another and recognise that emergency contraception is a responsible option that is needed for a variety of reasons.”

Researching the area the company identified nearly 55,000 online searches each month for ‘morning after pill’ and ‘emergency contraception’ and also found that one in five women wouldn’t tell anyone if they were going to get the morning after pill.

The company’s When It Matters Most page on Facebook will host discussions about love, relationships, body confidence and sex, and address common myths about emergency contraception. HRA Pharma’s @ellaOneUK Twitter account will echo this approach, while also hosting short polls.

The two channels will be used as part of the promotional efforts for a new digital film from HRA Pharma on emergency contraception, which was launched at the end of May and racked up over 40,000 views in its first two weeks on YouTube.
