Excellence in Provision of Patient Services

This award recognises the advances made in providing services to patients, including in the use of telecommunication devices and information technologies, in order to deliver improvements in:

  • Standards of clinical practice
  • Provision of clinical healthcare at a distance
  • Acute care i.e. critical care and emergency situations
  • Co-ordination and delivery of services
  • Access to medical treatment or services
  • Remote monitoring of patients
  • Uptake of treatment
  • Compliance and adherence
  • Improved empowerment of patients
  • Managing risk and supporting independence
Services should provide comparable health outcomes to traditional in-person patient encounters, supply greater satisfaction to patients, and be cost-effective.

Entrants will need to describe the decision processes and insights that lead them to develop the service. They should also describe how the service was delivered and how results were evaluated to demonstrate impact in terms of changed behaviours and outcomes.

This category relates to work carried out between January and December 2011.


Judging criteria:

  • Rationale for the development of the patient service
  • Evidence that the service was built upon customer insight
  • Evaluation used to demonstrate the specific improvements
  • Effective implementation and delivery to the target group
  • Evidence of changed behaviours and enhanced health outcomes
  • Customer feedback
