Pharmaceutical Market Europe - July/August 2018

PME June

Hello and welcome to the digital edition of Pharmaceutical Market Europe for July/August.

Patients with otherwise intractable diseases infused with a single dose of genetically modified cells and then cured of their condition sounded like science fiction until very recently, but the cell and gene therapy revolution has most definitely arrived.

The development of CAR-Ts, gene therapies and other ‘advanced therapies’ is testament to the brilliant scientific partnerships between academics, biotech and pharma, and their determination over decades to bring curative treatments to patients.  In an exclusive interview in this month’s issue, we talk to the CEO of one of these pioneering gene therapy firms, Bluebird Bio’s Nick Leschly, about what its products mean for patients – and for the industry and healthcare systems.

Also featured in our July/August issue is full coverage from the Communiqué Awards, which celebrate the very best in healthcare communications. We look at what made the winners stand out – including the campaign which persuaded the UK government to introduce a sugar tax to tackle the obesity crisis, the suicide awareness-raising campaign which aimed to save lives, and the ground-breaking chatbot that helps asthma sufferers manage their condition.
