Decision making unit (DMU)

The team of people in an organisation who make the final buying decision. Decision making units may include people from the similar functional areas within a company or from areas spanning the company.

In a business environment, major purchases generally necessitate input from numerous areas of the organisation. Commonly, technical purchases demand the expertise of technical specialists. Occasionally the buying center is an informal collection of employees, but may also be a more formally commissioned group with specific authority, agendas, and procedures.
