Deep linking refers to a hyperlink to a page, file or image on a website that is housed deeper within a website than the homepage. This is beneficial to the user as they are taken directly to the relevant content.
Effective deep linking is a key aspect of search engine optimisation. Deep linking has been criticised by some profit making websites which claim it bypasses advertising on their main pages and has led to legal action.
