The PhRMA's stated intention is to provide:
Broad patient access to safe and effective medicines through a free market, without price controls,
Strong intellectual property incentives, and
Transparent, efficient, regulation and a free flow of information to patients.
In 2009, PhRMA members invested an estimated $45.8 billion (28.0208015 billion British pounds) in discovering and developing new medicines. Industry-wide research and investment reached a record $65.3 billion (39.9510554 billion British pounds) in 2009.
