Washington DC-headquartered comms group APCO Worldwide has promoted Stig Albinus to chair its healthcare practice.

He will also remain a senior director at APCO’s New York office, while his predecessor Robert Schooling has become the firm’s Americas president.

Over a 30-year career, Albinus has counselled numerous leading pharmaceutical, animal health, medical devices and diagnostic companies, as well as healthcare organisations and health policy associations, across Europe and the US.

He joined the APCO in 2011 from Porter Novelli, where he was a partner and director of integrated client solutions at the agency’s New York offices.

Earlier, he spent 16 years with Burson-Marsteller (BM), during which time he held several executive posts within the firm’s healthcare practice, including head of European markets. While in this position he grew the practice into the strongest in Europe, achieving annual revenue of more than $25m.

“Stig has played a central role in strengthening our healthcare practice, and I’m happy to see such a talented colleague assume this position,” said APCO CEO Margery Kraus.

“His breadth of experience in healthcare globally, paired with his commitment to his colleagues and clients makes him an ideal person to lead the practice.”

Since joining APCO, Albinus has worked with clients across healthcare industries, with projects including: integrated stakeholder engagement, product pre-market conditioning and launches, issues and reputation management and thought leadership regarding R&D, science and innovation.

Commenting on his appointment, Albinus said: “I am honoured to lead our healthcare practice and build on the momentum of such a strong team.”

“APCO’s healthcare team boasts amazing, engaged talent and fascinating client work and I am excited about the opportunities ahead,” he said.
