Havas Worldwide has promoted Victor Joseph 'VJ' Yamat as managing director of healthcare operations in South East Asia.

Previously the agency's healthcare director in the region, Yamat launched the specialist healthcare practice Havas Life, spearheading major pitch wins across the region.

“In just over a year, Havas Life has seen exponential growth under VJ's stewardship, with more regional clients coming on board, hoping to tap on Havas' Expertise in delivering effective communications strategy,” said Juan Rocamora, chairman of Havas Worldwide Asia-Pacific.

“With this well-deserved promotion, I am confident that VJ and his team will help our agency move forward in strengthening our market leadership in the health and wellness sector.”

Based in Singapore, Yamat will report to Rocamora. The new role is an evolution of his previous role, he told PMLiVE, adding that the main difference is that the next two years will see him working on 'the establishment of brick-and-mortar Havas Life offices across the region'.

“At the same time, I am tasked to instigate healthcare business-based collaboration between Havas Worldwide and Havas Media.”

Asked about his first priorities, Yamat said: “To ensure that our global clients are well taken care of in this part of the world; help develop and/or enhance healthcare capabilities in every Havas Worldwide office; and encourage healthcare-based collaboration between Havas Worldwide and Havas Media.”

Yamat joined Havas in January 2013, having been managing director of McCann Health in the Philippines. Prior to that, he was the Publicis Healthcare Communications Group (PHCG)'s first employee in Greater China.
