In this role, Bains will oversee all of the pharmaceutical firm’s operational activities, reporting to Shinichi Tamura, Sosei’s founder and group chairman.

Bains has nearly 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, bringing considerable strategic and operational leadership expertise to his new position.

He spent 23 years of his career at GlaxoSmithKline, first joining in 1996 as general manager of the former SmithKline Beecham before taking on a series of increasingly senior positions, including general manager of its operations in China, head of global marketing, and senior vice president of international commercial operations.

Bains said: “I am both personally honoured and also extremely excited at the prospect of taking up these new roles and I would like to thank Mr Tamura and the Sosei board for their trust and support.

“Sosei Group is now at a very dynamic point in its history as it seeks to expand its operational scope and scale, and I am looking forward to its rapid evolution into a truly global biopharmaceutical company.”
