Zealand Pharma appoints new CEO

Britt Meelby Jensen joins from cancer diagnostics firm Dako

Denmark-based Zealand Pharma has appointed Britt Meelby Jensen as its new CEO, effective from January 15, 2015.

Jensen is currently CEO at Dako, which specialises in cancer diagnostics and is part of Agilent Technologies.

Prior to this, she held numerous senior roles at Novo Nordisk over eleven years including international marketing director and VP global marketing, working her way up to corporate VP of global marketing, market access and commercial excellence.

Jensen succeeds David Solomon, who has held the position of CEO at Zealand for six years.

Regarding his departure from the company, Solomon said: "Zealand is entering a new phase in its development, where the company will focus more on late-stage development and pre-commercialisation of proprietary pipeline products. This requires a CEO with a different profile and experience.

“I am glad to have contributed to the growth and maturity of Zealand's business and look forward to new challenges. I am certain that Britt Meelby Jensen will contribute her significant marketing and operational experience to Zealand's continued development."
Solomon will remain in the position until the handover date to ensure a smooth transition.

Daniël Jan Ellens, chairman of Zealand's board of directors, added: "We are thankful for the tremendous work David has put into Zealand in the past six years and the results achieved.

“Under his leadership, the company was taken public, and his experience and visionary capacity have built the business and the pipeline including innovative partnerships and brought the company to its current position, representing a strong basis for further growth."
