The next Quality in Care (QiC) webinars will focus on the diabetes programme with a two-part look at new ideas to improve patient care.

Part One will be broadcast on Wednesday 29 January at 1pm (UK time) and will feature case studies in primary care training, patient education, oral health and care planning from the following speakers:

Heather Daly, nurse consultant, the Diabetes Centre at University Hospitals of Leicester

• Training primary care providers to provide effective, evidence-based diabetes care

Dr Peter Davies, consultant in diabetes and endocrinology, Sandwell hospital, West Midlands

• Helping patients understand diabetes and take control of their condition

Hani Mostafa, general dentist practitioner (GDP) and clinical teacher at Warwick University

• Improving oral health to raise diabetic patients’ quality of life

Lindsay Oliver, national director of the Year of Care Partnerships, Northumbria NHS Foundation Trust

• Making care planning and self-care support routine in diabetes

The 60 minute webinar is free to view and will feature previous QiC Diabetes finalists sharing good practice and demonstrating the benefits and adaptability of their initiatives.

Quality in Care (QiC) Diabetes aims to help identify innovations and innovators, to recognise their achievements and to disseminate their good practice more widely across the NHS, charities and industry for the ultimate benefit of the patient.

Heather Daly, a nurse consultant, has been with the Diabetes Centre at University Hospitals of Leicester for more than ten years, having a tremendous impact on the development and delivery of self- management structure education to people with type 2 diabetes. She is passionate about effective education for healthcare professionals and it’s importance in improving outcomes of care. She is deputy course Director of a Diabetes MSc Programme at the University of Leicester.

Dr Peter Davies, a consultant in diabetes and endocrinology for 16 years, based at Sandwell hospital, West Midlands; passionate about how we can enable & support self-care, how we can join-up long-term conditions care and also how we can bring the best of digital healthcare to diabetes care, respecting people's time.

Hani Mostafa has been focusing on bespoke Oral Hygiene methods for patients for the past 8 years. He is a Clinical Teacher at Warwick University on their MSC course on Restorative Dentistry. He is the Inventor of the Gumsaver™ brush, he also practices dentistry as a GDP in Warwickshire, UK.

 
Lindsay Oliver – National Director of the Year of Care Partnerships – Lindsay has a major interest in communications skills and patient centred care, including the development of innovative approaches to patient care. She has worked both in a primary and specialist diabetes care settings. In 2003, she became the first Consultant Dietitian and used the opportunity to become more involved in the development of self-care programmes both at a local and national level, including the development, research and roll out of both the DAFNE, DESMOND and Year of Care Programmes.
