Our weekly round up of healthcare advertising stories.

Ad spend rises

Advertising expenditure is expected to rise by 4.2 per cent this year, with all media sectors forecast to record real growth. According to the Advertising Association's Advertising Forecast, internet advertising is predicted to be the single fastest growing medium, increasing by over 38 per cent, when compared with last year's expenditure. Outdoor and cinema are forecast to show the greatest percentage increases, with advertising expenditure rising by 6.2 per cent and 4.8 per cent respectively.

Internet advertising costs rise

Increasing numbers of European consumers with internet access and broadband penetrations will increase the price of internet advertising says a new report. JupiterResearch says that while internet adspend will rise to £3.3bn in Europe over the next five years, greater time and effort will be needed to manage campaigns. Julian Smith, author of the report said: ìNot only will the price of online real estate grow, but as marketers develop in sophistication and the scope and scale of their online campaigns augments, so the resource requirements to optimise the online mix will burgeon.î

ISBA rolls out contract

A new specialist 'model contract' for advertisers and their agencies has been launched by ISBA, the PRCA and procurement trade body CIPS. Featuring an easy start template, users can choose which legal clauses to use and tailor the contract for each business relationship. The model contract document is available free of charge to ISBA members from Debbie Morrison at ISBA.

Schering Plough consolidates

This will see WPP's Ogilvy & Mather lose its hayfever remedy Clarityn in the US and Havas' Euro RSCG lose its Coppertone and Dr Scholl's accounts. According to reports, Schering Plough has yet to decide which agencies will work on what projects and a decision will be made next month.
