CST The Gate launches healthcare agency

New company CST The Gate Health will specialise in health and pharmaceutical brands for medical professionals and consumers under the CST The Gate banner. It will offer a full range of capabilities, from media-neutral advertising, digital and direct marketing, sales promotion and brand/business consultancy through to media planning and buying for consumer health brands.

Leading the new agency is Brian Towell, a veteran of pharmaceutical advertising and branding specialist who has worked as a strategic and creative consultant for some of the world's leading and emerging pharmaceutical brands. Prior to this, he worked as a creative and strategic leader at many of the networked healthcare agencies including DDB Health, CDM London, FCB, Healthworld as well as brand consultancy Doghouse, which he founded.

During his 25-year career, Towell has worked with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), AstraZeneca (AZ), Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS), Roche, Novartis and Pfizer.

As head of health, Towell will lead the new agency, working alongside Phillip Hawkins, managing director of holding company CST The Gate. Creative leadership will be provided by Dave Trott, Gordon Smith and Richard Hayter.

"We're aiming to bring a fresh and somewhat different approach to healthcare advertising. We aspire to stand out creatively in a marketplace that has a well-earned reputation for dogma and dullness," said Towell. "Our ethos is to deliver business results on the basis of our unique, predatory creative and strategic approach … And we have a few smart tricks up our sleeve too, that I feel certain many clients will clamour for, and that I know the ponderous network agencies will not be able to compete with."

As part of The Gate Worldwide network, CST The Gate Health's London office will work with clients in the UK and farther afield, including the EMEA or EU markets. It will also manage the centralised development of core global healthcare brand and visual identity projects for emerging brands through The Gate Worldwide's international offices.
