Diabetes aspect of QiC announced

The first therapy area covered by the Quality in Care (QiC) Programme, diabetes, launches in September 2010

PMGroup has announced that diabetes will be the first therapy area covered in the Quality in Care (QiC) Programme, a new scheme the company is launching to identify, champion and share best practice in the treatment and care of patients.

The QiC Programme will not only champion and award innovation and best practice within priority therapy areas, but also aims to facilitate learning, sharing and dissemination of best practice within priority care pathways.  The diabetes programme will launch with an awards scheme in September 2010 and winning entries from these awards will be carried forward to a diabetes conference in the summer, providing delegates with the opportunity to learn and share knowledge from these best practice case studies.

Commenting on the QiC Programme, Alison Clough, commercial and communications director of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) said: “We are delighted to welcome these initiatives, which will recognise and reward improvements in a number of treatment areas, all of which have been identified as NHS priorities.”

Mark Savage, MD of PMGroup said: “We believe this programme is uniquely placed to make a genuine contribution to patient care, by shining a spotlight on one of the biggest diseases affecting us, and championing innovation from the NHS, the voluntary sector and the life science industry.”

The QiC programme provides the opportunity for organisations from across the public, private and voluntary sectors to showcase and share work that delivers high quality patient care. Evidence of cross-sector and joint working is of particular interest to the QiC programme.

The current NHS reforms and the age of austerity place significant demands and expectations on Britain’s health service.

The NHS could meet several of these demands through working more closely with the life sciences industry and with the voluntary sector. All three parties share a common agenda, and there is evidence that by combining skills and expertise, greater mutual benefits are gained by all parties, and most importantly by patients.
