Ex-Pfizer staff create new UK firm

Former Pfizer employees have created a research networking firm to be based in Kent, England, at a site the pharmaceutical company had previously announced it was to vacate

Former Pfizer employees have created a research networking firm to be based in Kent, England, at a site the pharmaceutical company had previously announced it was to vacate with the loss of 2,400 jobs.

Seven former Pfizer staff members will be part of The Research Network, described by its CEO, Andrew McElroy, as "a bit like a dating agency for scientists".

The firm will operate from Discovery Park in Sandwich, a site that the UK government recently announced would become an enterprise zone following Pfizer's decision to close its R&D facilities.

Pfizer put the site up for sale in June 2011, with a phased out exit to be completed by 2012.

McElroy explained that the firm would help biotech and pharmaceutical companies find the right partners for outsourcing research productivity.

He continued: "We are a talented team of experienced drug discovery scientists who have a broad knowledge of the scientific services market place, what things cost, how long projects will take and who provides the best service."
