Genetic Apps will develop tools for HCPs, patients and sports enthusiasts

Genetic Digital has launched a new business dedicated to the development of health and medical apps for smartphones and tablets.

Genetic Apps will focus solely on mHealth strategy and building and promoting health, fitness and medical apps aimed for use by health professionals, patients and sports enthusiasts.

Initially, the new division will be run by Genetic Digital managing director Damon Lightley, who told PMLiVE that he planned to recruit a sales director to take the lead in launching the brand into Europe and the US 'as part of phase two'.

Genetic Apps is based in High Wycombe, but a Brighton office is scheduled to open next month.

“Brighton is a real hotbed of digital talent”, said Lightley. “Around 23,600 people work in Brighton's creative sector, almost one fifth of the local economy, and it's been growing at a rate of 22 per cent a year – perfect for a technology business with ambitions growth plans like ours.”

Genetic Apps is currently working on its second medical dosage calculator for GPs, having already developed one for a pharma company that has gone through MHRA compliance.

Work is also under way on an app that will act as a drug administering aid and clinical pathway, accessible offline in an emergency, said Lightley. This app will contain video aids.

Other apps being worked on include a fitness app and one that will act as a diagnostic tool.

“The idea of having a specialist division is that we want to provide organisations with a truly integrated approach to app development”, said Lightley.

“We want to demonstrate to our customers that we are genuine experts in developing medical and health apps.”
