Launch of agency with focus on real-world studies

Complete True Life, part of McCann Complete Medical, to be headed by Andy Turner

Andy Turner - Complete True LifeA new healthcare agency specialising in real-world studies has launched in the UK.

Complete True Life, part of McCann Complete Medical, aims to support the development of observational studies in a 'real life' rather than experimental setting to obtain evidence-based data.

This data would then be used to support the market access and communication strategies of relevant companies, with the real-world studies to be conducted at all stages of the drug development process.

Complete True Life is headed by Andy Turner (pictured), who joins from Adelphi Real World where he served as commercial director for nine years.

He said: “With the ever-increasing pressure on world healthcare budgets, combined with the soaring costs of innovation, a new era has emerged.”

“Medicines must now provide validated insights and generate evidence to key stakeholders of their value in relevant patient populations, demonstrating improvements in overall patient outcomes.”

The use of real-world data to demonstrate the value of medicines has been championed by the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI).

The body, which represents the industry in the UK, has published guidance on how companies can make use of such studies.

In addition, CEO Stephen Whitehead said during a speech in September, 2011: “It [real-world data] will provide us with the opportunity to improve patient quality of life while reducing NHS costs.”

Companies to have already included real-world investigations as part of their efforts to demonstrate a drug's value include GlaxoSmithKline, which teamed up with NHS Salford to study asthma and COPD drug Relovair.
