Novo Nordisk hires new global CMO

Novo Nordisk has hired Dr Alan C Moses as vice-president and global Chief Medical Officer

Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk has hired Dr Alan C Moses as vice-president and global Chief Medical Officer (CMO).

Moses is currently CMO of Novo Nordisk's US affiliate, Novo Nordisk Inc.

In the newly expanded role, Moses will work closely with senior colleagues in Denmark to serve as the principle voice of clinical science for the company worldwide, providing clinical and medical affairs expertise.

Moses was formerly senior vice-president and CMO at the Joslin Diabetes Center and joined Novo Nordisk in April 2004 as associate vice-president of medical affairs and since then has also assumed responsibility for clinical research in diabetes.

Prior to joining Novo Nordisk, Moses spent 23 years at Harvard Medical School-affiliated institutions where he rose to the rank of Professor of Medicine. He has written more than 100 peer- reviewed articles on the treatment of diabetes and has been recognised internationally for his research in diabetes and growth factors.

Mads Krogsgaard Thomsen, executive vice-president and chief science officer (CSO) for Novo Nordisk, said: "The broadening of Novo Nordisk's diabetes therapeutic portfolio with the development of liraglutide and other novel molecules in the pipeline, and the increasing importance of the US to the business, requires a leader with clinical and research expertise to assume the role of CMO."
