Recent high-profile moves in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries

 

LEC (Lane Earl Cox) has hired Matthew Baker as deputy managing director. Matthew joins from Huntsworth Health, where he was director of digital communications and director of brand strategy. He will also be working with LEC's sister agency Athena, and will be pivotal in integrating the two businesses.

Rupert Doggett, Adrian Kemsley and Julian Greene  

Ogilvy Healthworld Advertising has announced the appointment of Adrian Kemsley (centre) as creative director and overall lead for the agency. Adrian will form a triumvirate leadership with the newly appointed commercial director, Rupert Doggett (left) and new client services director, Julian Greene (right) – both long-standing agency employees. Previously, Adrian worked with clients including Honda, Flora, Pepperami, Pfizer, Tiscali, P&O Cruises, The Economist, The BBC and ABF foods. His multi-award winning career has included creative directorships at Saatchi, SPL and CDP.

Co-founder of Red Door Communications (RDC) Catherine Warne (top left) has been promoted to chief executive of the Red Door Group. Catherine Oliver (top right) becomes managing director of RDC, taking over the day-to-day running of the consultancy. Nicola Walsby (bottom right) becomes a director of the company and Joanne Neave (neé Satchell - bottom left) has been promoted to the newly created position of director of ROCK Medical Communications. RDC's finance director, Paul Turnbull, has been promoted to the newly created position of divisional finance director for the Creston Health group of companies where he will look after RDC, ROCK Medical Communications and PAN Advertising.

PAN Advertising has announced promotions within its Board of Directors. Claire Dobbs (centre) moves from deputy managing director to become managing director. Claire joined PAN in 2004 and was promoted to the Board as client services director in 2006. Previously she worked at Grey Healthcare and IMS, and on the client side as marketing manager for SmithKline Beecham in the Middle East. Jon Linscott (left) becomes client services director. Jon joined PAN in 2003 and was promoted onto the Board in 2009.  His previous experience includes working at Torre Lazur McCann and Leavold Pollard Bardsley. Current managing director Ben Davies (right) moves to become CEO. Ben has 24 years' experience within the industry including roles in both marketing and sales management.

Adventis Health has re-organised its client servicing teams from two divisions (advertising and med comms) into three distinct multi-disciplinary business units, headed by Michael Sherlock, Tess Wulff and Alison Holland. In charge of these new business units, in the newly created post of general manager is former MedEd divisional head Neil Wincomb who, in turn, reports to managing director, Kevin McGetrick.

Shipra Singh

Porter Novelli has appointed Shipra Singh to the new role of head of healthcare for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Shipra will be based in the agency's London office and will work with existing healthcare leaders across the agency's international network. Most recently Shipra was head of strategic services for Hill & Knowlton.


Jean Stephenne has been appointed chairman, GSK Biologicals. Jean will assume this role in addition to his existing position as president, GSK Biologicals. Over the next two years, operational responsibility for Biologicals will be transferred to Dr Moncef Slaoui. His new responsibilities will be in addition to those he currently holds as chairman of research and development.

Zealand Pharma has appointed Dr Christian Gröndahl as chief scientific officer, Mats Blom as chief financial officer and Dr John Hyttel as senior vice president for operations. Dr Gröndahl has 20 years' experience in medical sciences and has held positions of increasing responsibility at Novo Nordisk for the past 14 years, most recently as corporate vice president for strategic alliances. Mats has worked in audit and corporate finance and has been the CFO of two public companies. Dr Hyttel was a Founder of Zealand Pharma in 1998. He served in increasing senior positions at H Lundbeck for 30 years prior to joining Zealand.

Bill Burns joins the Board of Shire as a non executive director as well as a member of its Remuneration Committee. Bill worked for many years for Roche; most recently as CEO of its pharmaceuticals division and as a member of the Roche Group Corporate Executive Committee. 

Mike Isles has joined the European Alliance for Access to Safe Medicines (EAASM) as executive director. Previously supply chain director at sanofi-aventis Mike will work to enhance the EAASM's activities in seeking better protection for patients from counterfeit medicines, and to extend outreach to new and existing Alliance members.

Burson-Marsteller has appointed Helene Ellison as global chair of its healthcare practice. Based in New York, she will report to worldwide president and CEO Mark Penn. Prior to joining the media relations practice at Burson-Marsteller, Helene was founder, president and CEO of HealthStar PR.

Complete Medical Group (CMG) has extended Andrew Berrie's responsibilities to include director of operational excellence for rollout of the medical communications' global roll-out plan. Andrew joined CMG in 1991, bringing over 23 years' experience in the pharma and medical communications industry. In addition, CMG has appointed Dave Clarke as senior digital consultant from his position as UK head of online at the Taylor Corporation. Prior to this Dave worked at 3M Pharmaceuticals and had global eMarketing roles with AstraZeneca and within a strategic digital consultancy.

Alison Wickens joins Bedgebury Communications as creative services director. She has extensive experience in developing new creative campaigns and implementing global campaigns for UK clients.

Rhian Mullock joins Athena as senior account executive, Olivia Bomy joins as account executive and James Langridge as account co-ordinator. Olivia previously worked as a project co-ordinator at Quintiles, while James made the leap into medical comms from a leading media marketing agency, specialising in new business development.

Succinct Communications has made nine new appointments. Chris Elston joins as account director, Emily McGrath as medical education assistant and Emma George as account director. In addition, Frances Bentley joins the meetings team as meetings executive, Michael Keating and Shane Johnston join as digital manager and RIA developer, respectively, and Denis Jetto joins as account manager. Mark Loughlin and Tom Roberts join the publishing team as medical writer and editorial project manager, while an internal vacancy has secured a role for Kate Mitchell as account executive.

Charlie Bellinger joins Zaicom MMC as principal medical writer. He has 20 years' experience in smedical communications both as a writer and editorial manager.

Oi media has appointed Elisabeth Nicholls as a digital account manager. Elisabeth joins from Gloucestershire County Council where she led the marketing and communications strategy for a social care change programme.

Laura Muggridge joins MSA Digital as head of client services and Veronique Cotrel joins as digital director. Laura has worked in healthcare for over 10 years. Veronique has held management positions at Ask Jeeves, CMP Medica, and Findaproperty.com.

Dr Andreas Guhl joins GfK NOP as director of its Market Access Centre. Andreas was previously director of a health outcomes unit at NHS Innovations London. He brings 15 years' experience in health economics, outcomes research and European market access.

Hakeem Adebiyi, formerly commercial director at IS Pharma, has become partner and director of client services at newly formed Hands Associates. Sandra Du Cros, formerly managing director of Such Things, has also joined Hands Associates as partner and director of marketing.

Kantar Health has named Ceri Thomas head of global marketing. For the past two years Ceri has led the global client accounts team for TNS Healthcare, now Kantar Health. Before joining Kantar Health, he spent 18 years at Pfizer, most recently as director team leader, European Brand Analytics, leading an international team delivering market research and competitive intelligence support to European brand teams and senior leadership.
