Recent high-profile moves in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries
Mover of the month is Greg Irace, who had been appointed to the newly created role of senior vice president, global services at Sanofi

 Greg Irace

Sanofi has appointed Greg Irace, currently president and CEO of its US operations, to the newly created role of senior vice president, global services. He will lead the Global Information Systems function, be responsible for shared support functions across all Sanofi businesses in North America and play a key role in the development of a global strategy for shared services. 


 

Sanofi has also appointed Dr David-Alexandre Gros, as chief strategy officer. Gros will cover all group business development and acquisition activities, as well as strategic planning, economic evaluation of projects, strategic intelligence and alliance management.

Peter Guenter has also joined the company as senior vice president, Europe. Guenter, who is currently general manager for the Multi-Country-Organisation for Germany, Switzerland and Austria, will succeed Belen Garijo, who will leave the company.

Anne C Whitaker has joined Sanofi as president, North America, pharmaceuticals. She joined from GSK, where she was senior vice president and business unit head, cardiovascular, metabolic and urology.

Farid Taha  

Spain-based Almirall has appointed Farid Taha as general manager of Almirall Hermal, in Reinbek, Germany. Taha will also lead Almirall operations in Austria and Switzerland. Taha has more than 25 years' industry experience. He joined Almirall in 2000 as global marketing director and was promoted to senior director Europe in 2006.

Colin Mackay, former communications director at the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations, has joined APCO Worldwide as a director of its healthcare practice in Brussels. Mackay has more than 20 years' experience in the healthcare sector. He was head of the healthcare practice for Weber Shandwick in Brussels and held roles with Aventis and Organon Laboratories.

Dr Didier Hoch

France-based Genticel has appointed Dr Didier Hoch to its supervisory board (conseil de surveillance). Hoch brings more than 25 years' experience in the industry. Hoch previously worked for Sanofi-Pasteur, Aventis Pharma International and Rhône-Poulenc Rorer France. He was president of the European Vaccine Manufacturers Association.

Michel Nakache has joined McCann Healthcare Worldwide as EVP Europe. Nakache replaces Mark Worman who is returning to Australia. Nakache was Worldwide managing partner, chairman EMEA/APAC and chairman of global brands of Havas Worldwide Health and Euro RSCG Life. Nakache has more than 30 years of both client and agency experience in healthcare communications within the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries.

Catherine Lacey

iS Health, part of the iS Healthcare Group, has appointed Catherine Lacey to the position of head of iS Health. She has almost 30 years' healthcare experience.

The MSI Consultancy has appointed Jon Bircher as managing director. He joined MSI in January 2006 from Sanofi, having also spent time with Pfizer and AstraZeneca.

Julia Holt

Julia Holt has joined Red Door Communications as an associate director. Holt was previously at Apothecom Huntsworth Health and worked for Huntsworth for 11 years, latterly as client services director. Holt has worked across a range of therapy areas including cardiovascular medicine, breakthrough cancer pain, hypertension, allergic rhinitis, diabetes and erectile dysfunction.

 

 

Susan Kilsby has been appointed to Shire's board of directors. She will become a member of the company's audit, compliance and risk committee. Kilsby has a distinguished global career in investment banking, having held senior positions with The First Boston Corporation, Bankers Trust, Barclays de Zoete Wedd and most recently Credit Suisse. Meanwhile, current board directors Bill Burns and David Stout will join the nomination committee and remuneration committee.

Sir Liam Donaldson has joined APCO Worldwide as a member of its international advisory council. He will provide strategic advice for clients. Donaldson was formerly chief medical officer for England, a role he held for almost 12 years, advising the Prime Minister, the health secretary and other ministers.

, former chief executive of Porter Novelli, has joined APCO Worldwide as a senior advisor. Ostrowski has more than 40 years' industry experience. Prior to joining Porter Novelli, she was managing director of the firm's New York office, head of the healthcare division, head of global practices and president of the Americas.

Dr Fionnuala Walsh has joined the executive committee of Eli Lilly and Company. Walsh will continue in her current role as Lilly's senior vice president of global quality. Walsh joined Lilly in 1988 at its Kinsale, Ireland, manufacturing site as a technical services chemist.

eNeuron Group has added John Edward Berriman and Simon Christopher Cartmell to its board as non-executive directors. Meanwhile Bryan Morton, a non-executive director since 2008, is to become chairman. Professor Trevor Jones has stepped down as chairman and is establishing and is to chair a Scientific and Strategic Advisory Group to advise and assist the company on its scientific and commercial agenda.

Kantar Health has appointed Dr Oria Madi as post-approval and non-interventional studies director. Madi will be in charge of growing Kantar Health France's expertise in non-interventional and pharmacoepidemiological studies. Madi worked as a private practitioner before joining the pharmaceutical industry. She has held different positions at Procter & Gamble, Pfizer, Sanofi and GSK.

Virgo HEALTH has made two further senior appointments to the HEALTH Education business unit in the form of account director Robert Stephenson, who joins from Ogilvy, and senior account manager Rebecca Neil, who joins from GlaxoSmithKline.
