Merck KGaA has promoted Elmar Schnee as the new head of its ethicals division. He joined the company in 2003 as chairman of Merck Santé, the ethical pharmaceuticals business of Merck in France.

Merck KGaA has promoted Elmar Schnee as the new head of its ethicals division. He joined the company in 2003 as chairman of Merck Santé, the ethical pharmaceuticals business of Merck in France. In 2004, Elmar took on the additional global duties of executive vice president of commercial ethicals.

Kjetil Hestdal has been appointed as president and CEO for PhotoCure. He has served PhotoCure since 1997 as vice president of research and development, and more recently as chief operating officer. He brings with him broad international experience in the pharma industry and has spent five years developing products at Norvartis. He takes over from Professor Vidar Hansson, a former founder of PhotoCure.

Norgine has made two new appointments: Kenneth Scrimgeour joins as vice president of the UK, Ireland, Australasia and South Africa unit, and Jean-Baptiste Oudar joins as vice president, finance. Kenneth joins with 20 years' experience, gained at Schering-Plough in a variety of senior sales and marketing roles in Europe and the US. Jean-Baptiste has held financial roles in companies such as Rhodia Silicas, where he was global chief financial officer, and Aventis France, where he was finance director. Morten Brandt, Luk Herten and Hugh Poulton have all been promoted, respectively, to vice president Germany, Austria, Switzerland; France, Italy, Algeria and Tunisia; and medium-sized and emerging markets.

Add Juice has appointed David Gould to the position of account manager. David moved from Lundbeck where he was involved in campaign development. Having recently completed his marketing MBA he has an in-depth knowledge of marketing strategy that is easily applied to the pharma mix.

Boehringer Ingelheim has made two new appointments to its healthcare strategy team: Kate Eden has been appointed as health policy manager for the company's secondary care portfolio. Kate joins from Total Healthcare Solutions, where she was a senior consultant advising on global market access, pricing and reimbursement. Valerie Amies has been appointed as a health policy manager for the respiratory, SUI and stroke franchise. She joins from Oxford Brookes University where she developed and taught both post-qualifying and masters programmes in the UK and Hong Kong.

Oxford Immunotec has appointed Dr Pamela Kirby as chair. Dr Kirby, who served most recently as the chief executive officer of Quintiles Transnational Corporation, brings with her more than 25 years' experience and is also currently a non-executive director of Smith and Nephew, Oscient Pharmaceuticals Corporation and T&F Informa.

Foote Cone & Belding has appointed Richard Gibbs as managing director of the newly formed FCB HealthCare office in London. Richard joins FCB from Healthworld Communications where he was client services director. He has spent the past 17 years working in pharmaceutical advertising and promotion, with particular focus on HIV, gastroenterology, arthritis, epilepsy, and asthma.

Nina Jones has joined Resolute Communications as a senior account manager. Nina has more than six years of healthcare communications experience having served previously at Lowe Fusion Healthcare. In her new role, she will work on accounts for Roche Pharmaceuticals and Shire Pharmaceuticals. Ross Williams has also joined as a senior account manager. Ross has five years' experience in the industry, joining from Hill & Knowlton and having also worked for Shire Health and Ketchum UK. Mark Beckett has joined as a junior account executive. Prior to this new role he served at EURO RSCG Biss Lancaster.

Ajaz Qureshi has joined Chiltern International as an early phase business development executive. He joins from Quintiles, where he served most recently as an associate. Dr Steffen Magin has also joined the company as senior business development manager based in Germany. Dr Magin brings extensive expertise to his new role, in which he will be responsible for further strengthening the company's business development activities in mainland and continental Europe.

Thomson ACUMED has appointed Dr Geoff Fisher as scientific director. He has more than 12 years' experience in clinical research and medical affairs in the pharmaceutical industry covering a number of therapy areas, including oncology, gastro-intestinal, pain and anaesthesia/critical care. He joins from GlaxoSmithKline where he was director of gastro-intestinal clinical development for Europe.

Emma Hyland has been appointed as an account executive at Affiniti. Prior to her new role, Emma served at Ketchum on a range of ethical healthcare accounts gaining valuable experience in PR. Emma has a strong science education in biochemistry and biomedical physics.

PharmaPoint has appointed Andy Trouton, Graham Hawthorn and Dr Peter Shaw as commercial director, operations director and medical director, respectively. Andy has over 15 years' commercial experience gained at GSK, Sanofi-Aventis and Biogen-Idec. Graham is a founding director, and was previously MD, of IHS. Peter is also a practising GP.

Initial Style Conferences has appointed David Owen as group marketing manager to support the overall brand as well as the activities of the 29 venues. He joins from Richardson Carpenter and brings a wealth of experience.

Dr Steve Annels has joined Dewar Alexander as an account manager from Matthew Poppy Ogilvy.

Virgo Health PR has made several new appointments: Helen Laurence has been appointed as a senior account executive. She served previously at Burson Marstellar before working at Shire Health London where she progressed from an administrative position to an account executive. Caroline Fielding joined the Virgo team as an associate director, prior to which she spent six years working for the Shire Health Group in a variety of positions - most recently as associate director for Shire Health International, based in New York. Tim Geldard joins as an account manager from Cohn & Wolfe where he worked on both UK and international ethical healthcare accounts. Andrea Petruzella has also joined Virgo, as an account executive. She brings with her two years' experience of PR from various industries.

Helen Jones has joined Brader Perryman as a senior account manager. She brings with her four years' experience in healthcare agencies including Medicus Australia, and Paling Walters, in London. Brader Perryman has also created a new design team: Justin Earl has been promoted to head of design with a remit to manage and develop the firm's expanding list of graphic design clients. He has over ten years' design experience to add to his degree in graphic design gained at the Arts Institute at Bournemouth. Steve Gane is a graphic design graduate from Bath Spa University and has joined Justin's team as art director, where his remit is to conceive and execute creative solutions for all of Brader Perryman's clients.

The Medical Multimedia Company (MMC) has expanded its team with the appointment of two new staff members: Dr Alison Begg as associate producer/medical writer and Dr Claire Tocher as account manager. Alison has recently completed her PhD in molecular neuroscience from Edinburgh University, after gaining a BSc in pharmacology. While studying for her doctorate, she was also involved in running clinical trials for the Swedish company Clinitrac, in collaboration with AstraZeneca. Claire is a qualified physician and most recently served at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London, specialising in rheumatology and rehabilitation medicine. She also has some experience of running healthcare audits in both primary and secondary care.
