Recent high-profile moves in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries
Movers of the month are Eduardo Sanchiz who has been appointed new CEO of Almirall and Martínez Carretero who has been appointed chief financial officer

Almirall, based in Spain, is to separate its chairman and chief executive roles because of the increasing complexity of the business. The company has appointed Eduardo Sanchiz (right) as the new CEO, while executive chairman Jorge Gallardo will continue to work with the board and the CEO, concentrating on strategic priorities and related actions. 

The company has also appointed Daniel Martínez Carretero (left) as chief financial officer. He will be leading the areas of purchasing, IT and investor relations.

Thomas Lingelbach has been selected as chief executive for Austria-based Intercell. He replaces Gerd Zettlmeissl who is leaving to pursue other personal and professional interests. The company will propose to the next General Assembly the election of two new members of the supervisory board, Alexander von Gabain and Thomas Szucs. One current member of the supervisory board, David Ebsworth, intends to resign due to the demands on his time required by recent increased executive responsibilities he is taking on in Switzerland as CEO of Galenica.

Simon Bury, Selcia  

Selcia, the UK-based CRO, has appointed Simon Bury as business development director of its discovery division, to lead expansion plans in its drug discovery offering. Bury has more than 30 years of commercial experience within the life sciences industry. He was most recently chief commercial officer for Cyprotex Discovery, where he was responsible for the company's global sales and marketing activities.

Eli Lilly and Company has appointed Liam English as associate communications director for the Australia, Canada and Europe (ACE) region. It follows a strategic reorganisation of the communications and policy team within the ACE Brussels office. English joined from the UK Civil Service where he spent three-and-a-half years as deputy director of communications and head of media relations at HM Treasury and the Cabinet Office.

Judith Greciet, BioAlliance Pharma

BioAlliance Pharma in Paris has appointed Judith Greciet as chief executive, succeeding  Dominique Costantini. Greciet has previously worked at Zeneca, Wyeth and Eisai, where she held operational and strategic positions in the oncology and immunology areas. 

Ireland-based ICON has boosted its immunoassay capabilities through the appointment of Dr Tony Upton, who has joined as associate director of Immunoassay Services, EU. He comes from Emergent.

Thomas Bieringer, INVITE

Dr Thomas Bieringer has been appointed managing director of INVITE, the joint venture between Bayer Technology Services and Technical University Dortmund in Germany. Bieringer succeeds Michael Lorenz who is assuming duties at the industrial operations unit of Bayer MaterialScience.

UK-based Synexus has selected Alison Martin as vice-president of international projects. Martin will be responsible for driving the creation of a project management service. She joined from INC Research, previously MDS Pharma Services, where she spent six years in a variety of international project management roles in Europe, Asia, North and Latin America.

Faisal Ahmed, Life Healthcare Communications

Faisal Ahmed has joined Life Healthcare Communications in the UK as head of digital. He was part of the start-up team at Amazon and has been responsible for digital strategies at 90 football clubs. He also launched Playboy's mobile and social media platforms.

Merrion Pharmaceuticals, based in Dublin, has selected Jonathan O'Connell as chief executive and director. O'Connell has served as chief financial officer at Merrion since November 2005 and will continue to fulfil this role.

Suzanne Chemistry

Chemistry Search & Selection, the specialist healthcare communications and med ed recruiter, has hired Suzanne Kelly as principal consultant. Kelly joins Chemistry from VMA Group where she set up the healthcare communications practice nearly three years ago, and will work on assignments in healthcare PR and communications, advertising and medical education.

PAN Advertising has made the following promotions within its account handling team. Natalie Enniks (left), a Biomedical Science graduate, becomes account manager whilst Jodie Whitelock (right) who has been with the agency since 2008 steps up to senior account manager.

Interlace Global Group appoints ten new staff to its Client Services and Editorial teams to work for twin companies Wells Healthcare and Interlace Global Communications: John Gill (middle left), Dr Elizabeth Harvey, Dr Lucy Smithers (top left), Dr Joshua Fink, Dr Ana Rodriguez De Ledesma, Dr Charlotte Combs, Dr Hazel Urwin, Abbie Waye (bottom centre), Farai Muldoon (middle right) and Kimberly Hann (top right).

 

ELC GROUP, the pan-European pharmaceutical regulatory affairs organisation, has appointed Dr Paolo Biffignandi  to its advisory board. Biffignandi, former president of The Organisation for Professionals in Regulatory Affairs (TOPRA), is a physician specialising in endocrinology and pharmacology. He is a Fellow of TOPRA, as well as an overseas fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine in the UK.

Belgium-based UCB will add two members to its executive committee on July 1.
Greg Duncan, currently senior vice-president and president of UCB's North American operations, will lead the company's US commercial operations. Jean-Christophe Tellier, who joins from Ipsen, will lead the European commercial operations. 

Astellas Pharma Global Development, a subsidiary of Astellas Pharma, had added four industry leaders to its team: Stephen Eck becomes vice-president and head of medical oncology, Karen Reeves joins as vice president and global head of medical science, Mark Weinberg becomes therapeutic area head for central nervous system (CNS) and pain and Bernhardt Zeiher becomes vice president and therapeutic area leader of inflammation, immunology and infectious diseases.

Ipsen has announced the departure of its executive vice-president and chief financial officer Claire Giraut, executive vice-president of human resources Frédéric Babin and executive vice-president of corporate development Stéphane Thiroloix. The company said it would announce their successors shortly. 

Dutch biotechnology company Mucosis has chosen Thomas Johnston as chief business officer. He will have global responsibility for the licensing and marketing of Mucosis's technologies, negotiating corporate partnerships and other strategic alliances. Johnston joins Mucosis from Novavax, a Nasdaq-listed clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company. 

The European Pharmaceutical Market Research Association (EphMRA) has appointed three associate members to its board: Ipsos' Sarah Phillips, Hall and Partners' Abigail Stuart and The Planning Shop International's Kim Hughes

UK-based home healthcare provider Evolution Homecare has appointed Ann Broekhoven as managing director. Broekhoven has more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare sector. She replaces Joanna Shaw who is moving to take up a European role at Medco Celesio BV.
