Dr Sanjay Kapoor has joined Otsuka Pharmaceutical Europe as its European medical affairs manager

Dr Sanjay Kapoor has joined Otsuka Pharmaceutical Europe as its European medical affairs manager. In his new role, Dr Kapoor will work across Otsuka's European medical network to build and harmonise processes at the company. Dr Kapoor was previously the medical information and pharmacovigilance manager for the UK and Ireland at Altana Pharma.

Michelle Cammack, account director at Athena Medical PR and CommuniquÈ Young Achiever of the Year, will become brand communications manager for AstraZeneca's breast cancer portfolio under a new six-month secondment initiative between the PR agency and the Anglo-Swedish pharma firm. The initiative, which is the first of its kind for both firms, will also see Kate Jefferson, brand manager for Seroquel, join Athena as an account director. Both Michelle and Kate will return to their respective employers in April 2007.

Cephalon Europe has appointed two vice-presidents: Ad Van Beysterveldt as vice-president of Cephalon Oncology and Hubert Puech d'Alissac as vice-president of Cephalon Central Nervous System, Pain and Primary Care Europe. Ad joins the company from Zeneus Pharma where he was general manager of France, Benelux and Scandinavia. Hubert joins Cephalon from UCB Pharma were he was the general manager for its French subsidiary.

Archimedes Pharma has bolstered its management team with four new hires: Dr Mark Watling, medical director; Dr Miranda Penhaligon, clinical operations director; Barbara Clarke, director of regulatory affairs and Matt Kennedy, supply chain manager. Mark joins the firm from Novo Nordisk where he was head of medical partnerships within European Medical Affairs. Dr Penhaligon has 18 years' experience of clinical trial management and joins from Quintiles. Barbara joins following seven years as regulatory affairs director at Chiron. Matt joins from Shire Pharmaceuticals.

Sanofi-aventis has appointed Michel Labie as senior vice president of communications. In his new role, he will retain his responsibilities of vice president of institutional and professional relations.

The Prescription Medicines Code of Practice Authority has hired a new communications manager, Niamh MacMahon, to help improve awareness of the revised ABPI Code of Practice. Niamh worked previously as the interim head of public affairs at the General Social Care Council.

Following on from its agreed deal to acquire Altana Pharma, Nycomed has announced the line up for the executive committee that will lead the new company on completion of the deal. Hans-Joachim Lohrisch, president and CEO of Altana will be a member of the board of the combined group and aid CEO of the new entity, H·kan BjÛrklund, during the integration process. The remainder of the executive committee will comprise the following members: Runar BjÛrklund, chief financial officer; Charles Depasse, VP, integration; Alfred Goll, VP, human resources; Barthold Piening, VP, product supply; Otto Schwarz, VP, commercial operations; Dick SÛderberg, VP, marketing; and Kerstin Valinder as VP, business development. In addition, Hans Arvid Danielsson will be senior VP of information systems and technology; Jostein Davidsen will retain his position as senior VP, Russia-CIS; Michael Kuner will be senior VP, legal; and Stig Roswall will retain his position as senior VP, quality assurance. The VP of R&D and a head of corporate communications have yet to be appointed.

Brian Tjugum has been promoted to deputy managing director of Weber Shandwick's healthcare practice. Brian, who most recently was a director at the firm, will report to MD of healthcare, Lucie Harper.

Chiltern International has made two new hires: Dr Adrian Quartel, UK medical director and Paul Westnedge, head of Chiltern Integrated Resourcing Solutions. Dr Quartel joins the firm from Astellas Europe where he was European medical affairs manager. Paul started his career at Pfizer before moving to Glaxo and then GlaxoSmithKline.

Paul Concannon has been promoted to operations director at Doctors.net.uk. Previously business development director for the company, Paul has 22 years' experience in pharma.

Dr Chris Lee has been hired as business development director at Synexus where he will be responsible for marketing and developing new and existing clients. Dr Lee joins the firm from Ajinomoto Pharmaceuticals where he was medical director for the US and Europe.

OnMedica has appointed Dr Kamran Abbasi as medical director, editor-in-chief and CEO designate to take the helm when founding director and CEO, Brad Wilson, retires in November. Dr Abbasi joins from Dr Foster Intelligence where he was medical director.

Peter Carr has joined Manning Selvage & Lee as the new head of its healthcare group. Previously, Peter was managing director of Solaris Healthcare Networks.

Northbank Communications has promoted Katja Stout, Sarah Jeffery and Lorna Watson. Katja, co-founder of the agency has been voted onto the board of directors and becomes associate director. Sarah and Lorna have been promoted to account directors from senior account managers.g Medicus International has hired Neil McLelland as client services team director. Neil has 12 years' sales and marketing experience in the pharma industry and joins the agency from Ogilvy Healthworld Medical Education where he was director of client services.

Fleishman-Hillard has made five new appointments: Julia Rodger and Gina Worthington as account managers, Jenny Bickett and Rachael Priest as account executives and Lorna Croft as assistant account executive.

Roundhouse HealthAd has hired Michael Sherlock as account director and Jacqueline Redshaw as account manager.

Spectrum Regulatory Solutions, part of Zaicom International, has hired Maria Mehlin as team leader of regulatory services. Prior to joining the firm, Maria worked in regulatory affairs for GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare.

Langland has expanded its team with eight new additions: Mike Knight joins as art director, Amber Bauer as copywriter, Anna Beard as designer and Steven Coles and Richard Jones as artworkers. In account handling, the new recruits are Lucy Robinson and Rosamund Partridge as account executives and Simon Velk as operations executive.

LeapFrog Communications has hired Tess Wulff as account director. Tess, who joins the agency from Ruder Finn, will work alongside Neil Wincomb who has recently been promoted to account director. In addition, Scott Anstey and Alison Holland have joined as account executives.

De Facto Communications has appointed five new members to its team: Julia Saloman, Candice Phillips, Sarah Herrmann, Sangeeta Patil and Joanna Dixon.

Jo Ferrier has joined hsdcommunications as senior account executive working in the medical communications division of the agency.

Aurora has hired Sarah Hoffman as account director and Aaron Pond as account manager. Sarah joins from Edelman where she was a senior account manager. Prior to this she worked with Aurora co-founders Claire Eldridge and Neil Crump at CPR Worldwide. Aaron joins from Ozone.

Core-Create has made Michael Dumigan head of its new brand development division, Brand Create. He has over 20 years' strategic branding experience with companies including Allen & Overy, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Microsoft Europe. In addition, Amy Vernon has been appointed account manager at Brand Create.
