Recent high-profile moves in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries

Mover of the month is Helen Betteridge who has been appointed to the position of market manager new product development with Mölnlycke Health Care.

Helen Betteridge 

Mölnlycke Health Care has appointed Helen Betteridge to the new position of market manager new product development. As part of Mölnlycke's UK Wound Care team, Helen will be responsible for new product development projects and product reimbursement. Helen originally trained and worked as a registered nurse, before gaining medical marketing experience at Beiersdorf Medical UK and Datex-Ohmeda Ltd. Most recently she was deputy lead manager for the NHS national primary care development team.

 

 

 

 

Dr Hilary Kaube Dr Hilary Kaube, a former GP with eight years of agency experience, joins Litmus MME - the dedicated medical marketing and education division of Chandler Chicco Companies. Hilary joins from the medical education practice of BM where she was director.

Marc Southern has joined Fleishman-Hillard (FH) as associate director, digital healthcare, from OnMedica. In this newly-created role, Marc will provide support across FH's three healthcare teams – healthcare PR, healthcare PA and the Remedy – and work closely with FH's digital team in London. He is a qualified pharmacologist, who specialised in the digital healthcare environment.

James Harper

PR and communications consultant, James Harper, joins Athena Medical PR as a strategic consultant. Aside from a brief spell outside the industry to raise the aspirations of gifted and talented students, James has been in the pharmaceutical, healthcare and biotechnology sector for more than 16 years. For the last 18 months he worked as an in-house consultant for brand teams at AstraZeneca and Schering Plough. His previous agency post was as head of the communications division of international healthcare business and PR consultancy, Pope Woodhead and Associates.

Lucid has appointed Hannah Ridgway as senior account manager. Hannah, who previously worked at Innovex and Gardiner Caldwell London, has over 7 years' agency experience. She will be working alongside Abbott's UK gastroenterology and international dermatology teams to deliver expert-endorsed medical education programmes. Hannah Ridgway
Trish Rymer Trish Rymer has been appointed as sales consultant for The Excel Academy - the learning and development initiative for opinion leading healthcare professionals. Trish has had many years' experience in the pharmaceutical industry and for the last 18 years was with Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, where she held various roles in sales, training and management.
Chandler Chicco Agency (CCA) has appointed Cate Scott as Merck Serono franchise lead to oversee communications for Merck Serono's oncology products. She joins CCA from Wells Healthcare Communications. Other recent appointments include Robyn Cabarrao (joining from Tonic Life Communications), Sarah Herrmann (joining from De Facto Communications), Karen Dennehy (joining from OgilvyHealthPR), Kirsten Hamilton (joining from Lornamead) Duncan Shaw (joining from The Nucleus Group) and Alice Reynolds (joining from UniChem/Alliance Boots) as account handlers supporting on ethical and consumer health marketing accounts, and Claire Cornell and Jordana Hill as graduate trainees. Dr Stuart Dollow joins Norgine as chief development officer, with effect from January 1, 2009. He will be responsible for medical, clinical development, regulatory affairs and product development functions. Prior to joining Norgine, Dr Dollow spent five years as medical director at GlaxoSmithKline. He also spent time as a clinical research physician with Roche, followed by a variety of roles with GlaxoWellcome, including primary care medical head and chair of the CNS European business team. 

UniChem has appointed Jeremy Main as managing director of UniChem Ltd, with effect from mid-October 2008. In this role, he will have overall responsibility for the UK pharmaceutical wholesale business. Jeremy joined the business in January 2005 as sales director and was promoted to the role of chief operating officer in March this year.  

Ruth Shanley and Angela Tye have joined Brand(x) as account administrators in advertising. Ruth graduated from the University of Leicester with a BSc in psychology and has worked in various healthcare roles, most recently as a research assistant at Imperial College, St Mary's Hospital, Paddington. Angela completed a PhD in stem cell biology and developmental genetics and was an assistant editor for a biomedical journal. Reshma Parmar and Lizzie Nayman have also joined the company as account executives in PR/medical education.

Ketchum Healthcare has recruited May Baccari from Resolute Communications as a senior account manager to support work for Roche. Alexander Watson and Catherine Barnett have been promoted to practice directors, supporting the agency's strategic consultancy offering, Lisa Fletcher has been promoted to senior account manager, and Fiona Gildea and Julia O'Brien have been appointed account managers.

ScopeMedical has made several new appointments. Alan Nicolle has joined as director client services. He has a BSc in physiology and biochemistry and  previously held senior sales and marketing positions within the healthcare industry. Ruth Bond has been appointed medical writer. She has a PhD in bioinorganic chemistry and both medical communications agency and pharmaceutical industry writing experience. Louise Todd has joined as project coordinator as part of ScopeMedical's graduate scheme and Jenny Veness joins as project coordinator in the client services team. Nick Chessun has been appointed finance and IT executive. He has a BSc (Hons) degree in computing from Canterbury Christ Church University.

Gina Z Ali has joined Chemistry Search & Selection as a senior consultant, responsible for candidate and client relationships at all levels specifically in PR and medical education. Prior to this appointment Gina was at Media Contacts.

Pfizer has appointed Dr Mace Rothenberg as senior vice president, clinical development and medical affairs for its oncology business unit. Dr Rothenberg's responsibilities include overseeing clinical research and development activities, post-marketing evaluation and monitoring for all oncology products, as well as evaluation of anticancer compounds and potential in-licensed products from outside sources.

Richard Glasson has been appointed as chief executive of integrated communications agency, Gyro International, following Gary Brine's recent decision to leave the company after 17 years at the helm. Glasson has been chief operating officer at Gyro since 2002, and worked alongside Brine through the company's recent international expansion. Richard Perry will replace Glasson as chief operating officer. He has been at Gyro since 1995, most recently as VP of EMEA and managing director of the group's UK and Ireland businesses.

Chandler Chicco Companies (CCC) has announced the appointment of Carsten Edwards to Brandtectonics Europe. Carsten joins from Bristol Myers Squibb, where he held the position of customer marketing manager. At Brandtectonics Europe, he will be responsible for supporting the established team in delivery of evidence-based market access solutions that support a brand throughout its lifecycle.

OnMedica has appointed Jon Vernon to its board of directors. Jon was promoted to head of business development in January this year. Jo Bell has also been appointed to OnMedica's business development team. She gained key account management and sales experience with Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, before moving into medical diagnostics with Medtronic. In addition, Jill Everest has been promoted to head of project management. Jill had a successful career in nursing, across both primary and secondary care before moving to agency work. She held a range of project management positions, in traditional publishing and later in online publishing.

Fishawack Communications made several appointments in September. Tim Collinson joined as editorial director from Complete Medical Group, bringing with him 13 years' agency experience, and Carol Hills joined as scientific director with over 20 years' pharma and agency experience – most recently within AstraZeneca as a global brand manager in oncology. The medical writing team also appointed two new medical writers, James Reed, who was previously a postdoctoral researcher in the fields of tropical medicine, neuroscience and brain tumours and Rachel Malone, who brings over 6 years' experience of academic and pharmaceutical research, most recently within AstraZeneca as a research scientist in the inflammation/pain area.
