Christopher Spooner takes over as chief executive officer at Sinclair Pharma, following the retirement of Michael Flynn, and Christophe Foucher joins the Board in his capacity of chief operating officer. Both appointments will become effective at the company's AGM. Christopher Spooner was previously co-founder and CEO of HealthCor Management UK, the European division of HealthCor. He has 15 years' experience in analysing and investing in life sciences companies.

 

Richard Oakley has set up Oxygen Health Communications. He has more than 12 years' experience in all aspects of health communications, gained through working at consultancies Fleishman-Hillard, Porter Novelli, CCA and Edelman.

Dr Sabah Al-Lawati - has joined Athena as account director for medical education


Dr Sabah Al-Lawati has joined Athena as account director for medical education. Prior to this, Sabah was senior account manager at Jiwin PR in Dubai, an affiliate of Burson-Marsteller in the Middle East. She was responsible for medical education and PR accounts for clients such as Dubai Healthcare City, DuBiotech, MSD (Middle East) and Johnson & Johnson (Middle East). She has over six years' experience in UK and international medical education and PR, as well as a PhD in mental health. She will work on Athena's psychiatry portfolio and new business development.
The Appointments Commission has appointed Duncan Rudkin as chief executive and registrar of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), the new independent regulator for UK pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy premises from 2010. He will take up the post full-time on January 1, 2010. The new regulatory body is scheduled to open in the spring of 2010. Duncan Rudkin is currently chief executive and registrar of the General Dental Council (GDC). Bob Nicholls CBE is chair designate of the GPhC and also its first lay member. He has almost 40 years' experience in the NHS, working as a senior manager and chief executive at hospital, district and regional levels.

Frankie Laws - joins the Drew Agency as client services director


The Drew Agency is boosting its senior team with Frankie Laws, who joins as client services director. Frankie brings a wealth of experience in healthcare, gained from 17 years in the industry, including a long spell in the Ogilvy group.

Pharmexx UK has appointed Barbara Britten to the position of business development director. She joins from Actelion, where she was UK and Ireland sales director. Barbara has worked in the pharmaceutical industry for 21 years and has held various senior sales and marketing roles.

Alan Crofts - new healthcare director with NB Group
 

NB Group has appointed Alan Crofts as its new healthcare director. With over 15 years' industry experience, Alan has worked in the US and UK in a variety of high-profile pharmaceutical development and marketing roles. In 2008, he set up his own pharmaceutical marketing firm, Integrated Consultants, before moving to NB Group. He began his career as a medical research professional.

Gail Flockhart is the new managing director of Fishawack Communications, following a restructure of the board of directors. She has over two decades of experience in healthcare communications, including 10 years in marketing and new product development at Merck Sharp and Dohme and Allergan, and 11 years of managing agencies in the UK and US. Gail joins Fishawack from Caudex Medical, where she was chief executive officer.

Huw Nicholas - new recruit with North 51


North 51 has appointed Huw Nicholas. Huw brings extensive recruitment, sales and project management experience gained from nearly 20 years in the industry. He will work with both the total recruitment and performance excellence divisions of the company.

Chandler Chicco Companies (CCC) has appointed four new staff to Brandtectonics Access, its specialist market access business unit. Dr Emma-Kate Yates joins from Fast4wD Ogilvy, where she was account director. She has over eight years' experience in specialist healthcare communications, including clinical trial recruitment and retention. Dr Gaëlle Marinoni joins from IHS Global Insight where she was senior healthcare and pharma analyst. Also joining are graduates Lucy Horrell and Cameron Lockwood. Lucy holds a BSc in biology from the University of York and Cameron holds a BSc in molecular biology from the University of Manchester.

     

Brandtectonics Access recruits


Adventis Group


Adventis Health has taken on five new staff. Seated (l to r) are Joshua Lay, advertising account executive, Daryl Joseph, medical educaton account executive, and Bala Clark, web developer. Behind are Juliette Knott, account manager, and Carole Jabbour, account executive, both in the medical education division.

Medicus International has promoted Laura Gardiner to client service team director. She was previously senior account director and has been with the company for six years. The agency has also taken on six new hires: Juliet Harris becomes human resources manager, Rebecca Stuart joins as account executive, and Farah Dalwai, Liz Meredith, Tim Blackstock and Nadia Hashash join as medical writers.


New chief executive officer at Huntsworth Health is Neil Matheson. He was formerly chief executive of the company's North American operations. Sandy Royden continues to manage the European operations as chief executive officer of Huntsworth Health Europe. Neil's appointment follows the resignation of David Rowley, who was chief executive for eight years. Neil founded ApotheCom in 1999, which expanded into a network of agencies under the AXIS Healthcare Communications name. He sold to Huntsworth Health in July 2007.

Waggener Edstrom Worldwide (WE) has taken on Deborah Corcoran in the new role of associate director of the UK WE Healthcare Practice. Formerly at Cohn & Wolfe, Deborah has nearly a decade of experience with healthcare communications campaigns across all pharmaceutical lifecycle phases. Other recent appointments are Jon Silk, who joins as senior digital consultant, and Bryan Taylor who becomes director of client development for EMEA.

Blue Latitude has recruited seven new employees to strengthen its consultant and analytics teams. Duncan Arbour joins as senior consultant from LBi. He specialises in social media. Aoife Flood joins as a consultant from Thomson Reuters, Scientific. Boon Koh, George Head, Jessica Clements and Alex Brock all join as associate consultants, having previously worked at Financial Security Assurance, TradeDoubler, LBi and Generator, respectively. Paul Cook joins as an associate analytics consultant, from Moneyextra.com.
 
New digital healthcare agency, eBee has launched, with Kate Reynolds at the helm. eBee is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hive. Kate has extensive experience across advertising, medical education, market research, PR and public affairs both agency and client side.

The BMJ Group has appointed Dr Rubin Minhas as clinical director of the group's evidence centre. Rubin spent a year as a Harkness Fellow in Health Care Policy and Practice at the RAND Corporation and the Southern California Evidence Based Practice Centre in the US. He spent ten years as a regional advisor in the NHS and has co-developed NICE guidelines for cardiovascular disease, thereby gaining national and international experience of applying evidence-based decision making and improving healthcare quality.

PriceSpective has hired two senior experts for its UK office. Walter Colasante becomes vice president, and Sophie Murdoch becomes director. Walter has 20 years' experience in healthcare and was the founder and managing director of Freelance Health Services. Sophie brings 12 years of pharmaceutical experience, having been an associate director at Bristol-Myers Squibb.

National Services for Health Improvement (NSHI) has launched a new contract sales division with the appointment of two new directors. Kim Whaling, formerly national sales manager at Teva UK, joins Chris Hodgson, who was business development director with Innovex, to create a CSO for the pharmaceutical industry.

Cohn & Wolfe has appointed Linda Dyson as executive vice president and global healthcare practice leader. She joins from Roche where, for the last three years, she was a public affairs and advocacy relations executive and company spokesperson. She has 20 years of global healthcare communications experience.

Lime Advertising is celebrating its first birthday with the appointment of Antonia Richards as account director.  Antonia will be working on the Amgen and Genzyme accounts. She has experience in healthcare advertising, medical education and PR and has worked at Medicus International, MediTech Media and In Vivo Communications, as well as with agencies in Hong Kong and Singapore. 

Norgine has appointed Eva Begaud as new general manager for France. Previously, Eva served as general manager of Pfizer subsidiary, Encysive France, where she was responsible for setting up and developing the business, building the infrastructure and successfully launching a new product in pulmonary hypertension.
