Another January, another PM Society Advertising Awards ceremony. As usual, the Great Room at the Grosvenor House hotel was packed to the rafters with industry people eager to celebrate the very best of British healthcare advertising in 2005.

Compere for the afternoon, Irish comedian and Mock the Week host, Dara O'Briain soon had the audience in stitches as he set about reminding them that his homeland was really responsible for nurturing Wayne Rooney's talent and good looks. He then addressed the current challenges for the pharmaceutical industry, namely increased regulation.

Twenty years ago it was all lap dancing and champagne for the doctors, he said. These days you're lucky if you can give them a three-star hotel and a f***ing biro.

He also issued a thinly-veiled warning to any entrants who had been honoured with a `highly commended': Congratulations and all that but stay in your f***ing seat. Try harder next year.

He was followed onstage by Crawley's own Chico, made famous by recent X-Factor success. His rendition of new single It's Chico Time, complete with pectoral muscle flexing, had 50 per cent of the audience mesmerised - the female half. The majority of male members of the audience sat through the performance with bemused stares.

PM Society chairman, Sandy Thompson came to the stage to introduce the Awards, describing them as a platform for recognising and rewarding the talent of those who raise the standards of pharmaceutical advertising.

Woolley Pau stole the show by scooping four of the coveted awards, three of them for the Idrolax campaign. Roundhouse, Langland and Seven Stones all came away with two awards while Norris Lincoln AdCom took the Geoff Brook Award for Innovation in Integrated Campaigns for Lilly Icos' 'Lovelife Matters'.
