Porter Novelli restructures health practice

Porter Novelli has restructured its global healthcare practice in a move to build expertise beyond traditional PR

Porter Novelli has restructured its global healthcare practice by moving some senior staff into new roles and also making new hires in New York and London in a move to build expertise beyond traditional PR.

"The health influencers, consumer engagement and brand integration requirements will continue to change radically and at a quicker pace," Julie Winskie, president, global clients, Porter Novelli, said in a statement. “Defining this sector more broadly and hiring leaders who know health communications beyond traditional PR is at the heart of what healthcare clients need today."

Barbara DeBuono, Porter Novelli's recently hired chief medical officer, will lead the restructured practice as global director of health and social marketing, with a particular focus on the convergence of advocacy, issues, policy, digital and social marketing. She has also assumed management responsibilities for Porter Novelli's New York City health practice.

In New York, Susan Hayes will join the agency to serve as a partner, with responsibility for managing Porter Novelli's Novartis business. She was most recently the head of a firm she founded, S. Hayes Consulting, and earlier in her career held senior positions at Cooney Waters, Ogilvy & Mather and Porter Novelli.

Cheryl Nigro is also joining the New York office, where she will serve as executive vice president and lead the agency's Merck business. Nigro most recently founded her own company, Rethink LLC, and earlier led customer relationship management programming at Novartis and was EVP, client services and general manager of the New Jersey office of MicroMass Communications.

In London, Kimberly Santiago has been hired to work on men's healthcare brands as associate director. She joins the agency from Hill & Knowlton. In addition, Sarah Schapira has rejoined the London office from Tonic Life Communications as an account director, working primarily on women's healthcare brands.
