Roche wins company of the year at PMEA 2012

Also picks up team of the year at awards to recognise excellence in the pharmaceutical market

Roche Products was announced as winner in the Accenture Award for Company of the Year at last night’s Pharmaceutical Market Excellence Awards (PMEA) 2012, ahead of fellow finalists Abbott and MSD.

According to the PMEA 2012 judges, chaired by Accenture’s Dan Mathews, the company’s integrated and supportive approach to leadership helped ensure its victory at the awards, which recognise excellence in the pharmaceutical market.

“As a company it thinks broadly,” they said. “It is brave and tackles, supports and drives big issues which impact other companies not just its own, for example its Cancer Drug Fund activity.

“The passion and belief of everyone in the management team was tangible and really impressed us. As judges we all came away with the thought that we would happily work for this organisation.”

Roche Products, which is the UK division of Switzerland-based Roche, was also recognised in the InVentiv Health Communications Europe Award for Team of the Year.

The Roche Communications and Healthcare Strategy team picked up the award ahead of rival teams at Astellas, Leo Pharma and Celgene.

“In 2011 this large team spanned a number of functions within Roche including PR, public affairs, corporate communications and healthcare development,” said the judges. “The team worked well together to embrace the inevitable overlaps and manage them effectively – the right approach for each initiative was discussed and agreed.”

More than 500 people attended PMEA 2012, which was held at the Hilton Park Lane in London, UK.

The annual event aims to recognise the work of companies in responsible marketing and business practices that enhance the reputation of the industry.

This year’s awards attracted 73 entries across 18 categories, each addressing a key area of the pharmaceutical market.
