Sanofi-aventis's chief financial officer quits

Jean-Claude Leroy, executive vice president, financial and legal has resigned from his position at sanofi-aventis after 23 years service at the company.

He will be replaced by Laurence Debroux and Karen Linehan who will both now report directly to Chris Viehbacher, newly appointed CEO.

Leroy had worked at sanofi-aventis since joining as financial director of bio industries in 1985. He served in a variety of positions during his 23-year career with the company, before being appointed to his most recent position in March 2007.

This announcement comes just over a week after Chris Viehbacher, former president, pharmaceutical operations North America at GlaxoSmithKline, was appointed to the role of chief executive officer.

Analysts predict that Viehbacher will be charged with improving sanofi-aventis's drug pipeline in a bid to lesser the impact of increasing generic competition.

News of structural changes at the company has coincided with reports in the US, fuelled by real estate firm SL Green Realty Corp in association with Gramercy Capital Corp, that the French firm is selling its North American headquarters.
